About Us
WHO WE ARE
Our motorcycle chapter welcomes all types of motorcycles and motorcycle riders. We are located in West Georgia. We don't care what you ride as long as you ride. Our chapter has no dues or fees, but we do require you have a valid motorcycle license and insurance to ride. On rides we put on, we have a Safety Coordinator and a Ride Coordinator which during the rides are watching riders and other vehicles to make sure the ride is as safe as possible for all. We also have Ride Captains, Road Guards, and a Tailgunner, all doing their specific duties to make safety first during these special events. If you ride, we would like to extend an open invitation to any and all to join us not only for our events, but join in membership.
The Spirit Driven Cruisers are a group of men and women that got together back in mid 2004 and started a motorcycle riding chapter. We were formed from bikers all over Carroll, Coweta, Douglas & other surrounding counties. We even have some brothers & sisters from our neighboring state of Alabama that come over and ride with us when they can. Our purpose was not only to help children in need, but while we were doing that, we wanted to hopefully change the thoughts of the people in the surrounding communities about bikers and also let them know that most bikers have some of the BIGGEST hearts of anyone in this great country of ours. We support all kinds of benefits, but our main support goes to benefit rides that deal with babies and youth. When we started this group we agreed that we would put on 1 benefit ride per year, but we would host others if we were asked. Since we started the group we have supported rides for: Autism, March of Dimes, GA. Sheriff's Youth Homes, Veteran's Memorial Rides, Breast Cancer, and toy runs at Christmas.
In November 2005 we joined with the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. We planned for almost a year and held a benefit ride in August of 2006 with all the proceeds going to Camp Oasis which is a summer camp that is for youth with Crohn's or Colitis or both of these non curable diseases. Our first year we raised over $3000 to help with Camp Oasis. A Big Thank You to all the participates in the "Cruzin For A Cure" Ride on May 20, 2007. We had several groups represented at the ride and I personally would like to Thank them for all their help and support. Groups represented were: Patriot Guard Riders, American Legion Riders, CMA, & the Chrome Diva's just to name a few. With all the help between the Sponsors, Riders, Passengers, the raffle, the 50/50 drawing, the auction, the memorial donations received in memory of our Tail Gunner, Scott Duren, and the gifts of love donations, we were able to raise a little over $4000 (again all proceeds went to Camp Oasis).
On Saturday November 10th, 2007 we put on a "Ride for Avery", an eight year old boy battling cancer. Just to see Avery smile that day was such a tremendous blessing. We had several people after the ride ended at Quaker Steak & Lube restaurant come up and tell me that was the best and most well organized ride they've been on in sometime. I can say myself that it was impressive looking in the review mirrors and watching everyone do what they were suppose to do when the signals were given from the front. When all do like they did in this ride it sure makes the escorts' job a lot easier. We had 2 units from Douglas County's Sherriff's Department leading the ride and 3 Georgia Escort Motorcycle Police units. These guys did an excellent job and helped make the ride as safe as possible. A couple of the motorcycle escort riders said it was great to have a ride were the leaders up front knew what to signal to all the other riders to make their job easier and safer for them to get back to the front after they blocked one intersection to the next. All the hard work pays off when you get pats on the back like that from law officers. We had an awesome event and I truly believe we were able to take a little burden off the family. I contribute the success to all the great publicity which helped get the word out there. Therefore we were able to raise a little over $6400 to help Avery and his Mom. All and all what a great day, wouldn't you say?
On June of 2008 we put on another ride benefiting a little 6 year old girl that lost her Mom back in March of this year. This was a short notice ride but we wanted to do whatever we could to help. Due to weather (yes we all got wet before the day was done) and a lot of other things going on that particular weekend we had one of our smallest events ever with only 12 bikes, but with only that few brothers & sisters we were still able to raise over $1450. Still had a good day, good food, & good music with plenty of prizes given away.
Our projected ride for 2010 will benefit one of the Children's Hospitals in Atlanta and will probably be in "Memory of Caleb". Stay in touch for the information to come.
All the above hopefully tells you a little of who we are and what we do, but the mission is not over. On & on we'll ride from year to year in hopes of doing all we can to help others. Praise GOD from whom all blessings flow.
